5 Reasons Why You Should Travel
Are you a person who loves to travel? I am definitely someone who loves to travel the world. I frequently takes visits to Los Angeles, California, but nothing quite compares to trips outside of the country (I live in the U.S.). There are many benefits of traveling the world from the food and culture, to the knowledge and experience you will gain. Particularly as a musician, I think it’s beneficial to travel for many reasons.
Last year I traveled to Germany and Denmark and created a song about it. You can check that out here:
One of my personal favorite reasons to travel the world is for the food. Food is cooked different everywhere, and one of the benefits of traveling the world is trying new food in different countries. In Germany I got to try wiener schnitzel, which is a veal dish. In Denmark we went to the Copenhagen street market, which was filled with different foods from all around the world. I just got back from a trip to London and Dublin. In London one of their signature meals is fish and chips. This is usually fried cod or haddock served over french fries (In England they call them chips).
We went to Dublin, Ireland for Saint Patrick’s Day. While we did not stick to tradition and eat corn beef and cabbage, we did go to this place called ‘My Meat Wagon.’ My friend and I split a platter of assorted meats which included chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and a few others. We should have split it for four because it was so much food! I understand if you want to travel the world you may be on a budget. But try not to eat McDonald’s the whole time and go out and experiment different restaurants in the countries you are visiting!
Other reasons to travel are for experimenting the different cultures. Cultures are customs, arts, and social interactions of different nations. The benefits of traveling the world are that you have the opportunity of seeing different historical monuments. In London we got to see Saint Paul’s Cathedral which is a historical church. We also went to Buckingham Palace which is where Queen Elizabeth lives. I also admire the different architecture that I see when I travel the world. Some of the buildings that you see in different countries don’t look modern at all. For instance, in London I got to see a lot of buildings that had a colonial look to them.
Another thing that fascinated me was using the different currencies these countries have. My first trip to Europe was to Germany and Denmark. In Germany they use Euros, and in Denmark they use the Danish Krone. England has its own currency as well which are pounds, and Ireland uses Euros too. My whole life I have used the U.S. dollar, so using different country’s currencies was really interesting to me. For example the Danish Krone is a lot larger than the U.S. dollar. It’s common in Denmark to carry around a 1,000 Krone bill!
The benefits of traveling the world is the potential knowledge you have to gain. Travel is beneficial to education because every new country that you visit there is something to learn from. In Europe there were many museums, building, and monuments we got to see. As I mentioned earlier we got to see Saint Paul’s Cathedral Church in London which was filled with historical readings. When you travel the world you get to learn about the history of the country you are visiting.
Not only do you get to learn about a country’s history, but you also get to learn how they interact as a culture. What they eat, how they communicate with each other. Something that was new to me was the way people in the United Kingdom drive. They drive on the left side of the road and the driver’s seat is on the right side of the car. That is the exact opposite of the United States. Foreign currency is another thing you will learn about when you travel the world. Any country’s currency will look different than your home country. You will have to learn what the currency is worth. The most confusing part was England’s coins. The value of the coins was written in tiny letters and it was hard to tell what was what.
Other reasons to travel the world is the experience itself. I can look back and say I got to visit Germany, Denmark, London, and Ireland with five of my best friends. There is no other experience like it. Any place you travel to could potentially be a once in a life time experience. Everything that you encounter in these countries could be the only time you get to see/do it. All the food you get to try, experiencing the culture, visiting historical monuments is all an experience. If you don’t have anything holding you back then why not travel the world?
Now for musicians this section will be very important. As a musician what are the benefits of traveling the world? What are the reasons to travel as a musician? The same reasons I stated above for anyone else that travels. But also musicians can find inspiration from traveling the world. You can use your traveling experience as a source of inspiration for your music. This is exactly what I did my first trip to Germany and Denmark. I created a song about the trip and put together a bunch of pictures and videos for the song. You can check that out here just in cased you missed it in the beginning of this post:
So from all the new experiences you get from traveling, think about all the sources of inspiration you can use for your music.
Also, shout out to my friend Daniel Scott. He also made a video talking about why musicians need to experience new things and travel. You can watch that here:
So as you can see there are many reasons to travel. I highly recommend it if you don’t have anything tying you down. The last thing that you want is to grow older and regret not traveling while you were young. As for musicians it is definitely beneficial to travel to expand your creative side. You might get inspired to write new songs based off your traveling experience. I hope you enjoyed reading this! If this has helped you in any sort of way, feel free to share this post for me.
